Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Collaborative Process

Whenever possible, our lawyers work to reach amicable divorce and child custody agreements through negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Resolving a divorce or other family law dispute through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) or negotiation has many benefits for all parties. It is usually less time-consuming, more efficient and less expensive than battling it out in court. ADR can help preserve family relationships and facilitate co-parenting after the divorce. Two of our partners, Amy Zylman Shimalla and Amy Wechsler, are Accredited Divorce and Family Mediators by the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. Pamela Copeland and Heidi Ann Lepp have also completed required education to provide mediation services.

A form of alternative dispute resolution that is becoming more popular is collaborative divorce. This method allows parties to come together with their respective representatives as well as outside sources, such as financial planners and child experts, to reach an agreement. Potential future litigation is avoided under collaborative methods, because all of the professionals involved must agree not to proceed to trial. Our lawyers help clients understand and achieve a favorable resolution through collaborative divorce.

Family Court and Litigation

Our attorneys recognize that not all divorces can be amicably resolved through alternative dispute resolution methods, and we are fully prepared to take your divorce case or other family law dispute to court if necessary to achieve your objectives. We have considerable litigation experience. We prepare meticulously for trial and have the courtroom skills necessary to succeed in court.
