Amy Zylman Shimalla and Amy Wechsler are certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as Matrimonial Law Attorneys and are Accredited Divorce and Family Mediators, as designated by the New Jersey chapter of the National Association of Professional Mediators. Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Collaborative Process
Whenever possible, our lawyers work to reach amicable divorce and child custody agreements through negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Resolving a divorce or other family law dispute through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) or negotiation has many benefits for all parties. It is usually less time-consuming, more efficient and less expensive than battling it out in court. ADR can help preserve family relationships and facilitate co-parenting after the divorce. Two of our partners, Amy Zylman Shimalla and Amy Wechsler, are Accredited Divorce and Family Mediators by the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. Heidi Ann Lepp, Melissa Grege Schiffman and Tam Abitante have also completed required education to provide mediation services.
An effective form of alternative dispute resolution that is gaining recognition is Collaborative Divorce. When resolving cases through the collaborative process, parties work in a cooperative and respectful process with their respective attorneys as well as outside resources, such as financial planners, divorce coaches and child experts, to reach an agreement. The potential for future litigation is avoided under collaborative methods, because all of the professionals involved must agree not to proceed to trial.
